Danny J. Melvin
(20 Nov 1951 - 17 Dec 2008)

Mr. Danny J. MELVIN, age 57, of Frankfort, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 in the privacy of his home. Born in Utica on November 20, 1951, Danny is the son of Melva (CLEMENS) MELVIN and the late Jason MELVIN. Raised and educated in Utica, he was a 1969 graduate of Utica Free Academy. He also received his Associates degree in Business Administration from M.V.C.C. At one time, he was married to Christine MELVIN. Danny’s career as a cook spanned many years, and he will be remembered for his down-home cooking and his outgoing and fun-loving personality. He had been employed at Joe’s Lunch in Whitesboro and currently prepared meals at the House of the Good Shepherd. He loved the children of the RTF and was looked upon as a role model, an exemplary friend, and a cherished co-worker. While helping the children of the House of the Good Shepherd to acquire a good meal, he cared about their personal needs and showed his hospitality to each child. He generated the idea of celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas meals with the children, their families, and the staff, and provided such a memorable, loving opportunity to share. As a family man, he was a forgiving, understanding, and sensitive father and grandfather, and the past 3 years had been shared with his companion, Bill. Crafts were his specialty, and he had a flair for decorating, especially for the Christmas season. His physical presence will be missed, but his generosity and creative nature will long inspire those who knew and loved him. A great part of him appreciated nature, and he often enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks. He was a spiritual man who performed many works for the Lord with such sincerity and humility. Danny is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Jennifer and David Coriale of Marcy; and Marianne MELVIN of Utica; his son and daughter-in- law, Christopher and Jennifer MELVIN of Whitestown; his grandchildren, Isabella and Dominick CORIALE, and David and Josephine MELVIN; his mother, Melva MELVIN of Schuyler; and his companion, Bill WARD. Survivors also include his brother and sister-in-law, Reggie and Linda MELVIN of IL; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the Frankfort Schuyler Volunteer Fire Department whose members responded with such compassion, sensitivity, and promptness. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00-3:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St. corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions in Danny’s honor to the House of the Good Shepherd, especially the RTF Building; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. His Celebration of Life and funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 immediately upon the conclusion of visitation with Danny’s uncle, Pastor Ernest CLEMENS, officiating. Interment will take place in Waterville Cemetery in the spring.
